  • HD Orongo y Rano Kau: This was the final setting for Rapa Nui culture. It was here on the crater's rim that they built the village of Orongo. Up until the 1878 the islanders practiced ancient rights and tests of skill. Rano Kau Volcano, it is not until you get to the very top of the trail that you see the view. A giant caldera stretched out before our eyes. Glistening lakes and marshes dotted the floor of the crater. Hawks rode thermals along its green and brown streaked walls. With the trade winds trying to left you up. Ana Kai Tangata: is the only cave where you can still see paintings on the walls and ceilings. The paint used to decorate the ceilings of the cave is the same the Rapa Nui used to paint their bodies.
  • HD Ahu Akivi: Built in 1460 this site was one of the later constructions built, probably at a time when the statue cult was beginning to unravel. Unlike other sites, Akivi is inland and has a commanding view of the western part of the island. Its 7 moai, all about 14 feet tall and approx. 12 metric tons each, are remarkably similar. The next stop turned out to be quite spectacular: the caves at Ana Te Pahu. At a number of places on the island, there are sizable caves that were once used by the ancient Rapa Nui natives for living quarters, shelters, or hideouts. The caves are actually empty lava tunnels that once contained rivers of molten lava. Once the lava drained out, the hollow tunnels remained. You will enter the dark cave 200 meters deep and will be guided by young guides with fire torches!

From there we will visit the Rano Raraku quarry; it is one of the largest and most important archeological sites of the island as there is an open quarry where the Moai were originally sculpted. Here one can see than 300 statues in various stages of their construction spread throughout both the inner crater and on the outer slopes of the Volcano; they can be admired in the different stages of production, from carving in the rock to upright position, and lying face down on their intended road to their platforms on the Island destroyed by a tidal wave in 1960, now reconstructed. A visit to Tongariki this is the largest known ahu, being 200m long with 15 upright Moai on its platform. Afterwards, we will drive along the North Coast, passing by La Perouse Bay to visit Ahu Te Pito Kura (The World’s Navel). From there continue to the beautiful archaeological zone of Anakena Beach a popular swimming and relaxation area characterized by its warm and specially clear turquoise water, the quality of the light here and the beautiful white coral sand. This is the beach where the expeditions of Chief Hotu Matua landed. It was a dwelling centre of the ancient rulers and the school of the ancient Maori (experts or wise men). Their teachings and wisdom have been maintained through time according to shared family traditions of the island. In this sector there are two Ahu that have been completely restored, Ahu Nau Nau and Ahu Ature Huki. Return to the hotel through the Vaitea Farm
